- Filter elements should be cleaned every two to three months to ensure proper water circulation and jet action. Simply soak the filter elements for 8-12 hours in SUN For The Spa Cartridge Cleaner then rinse off with hose
Step 2: Fill |
Residential spas should be drained and refilled every 60 days, or more frequently with heavy use. Fill your spa to the level recommended by the manufacturer. If possible do not use soft water, but if you must, contact your professional Spa Clear or SUN For The Spa dealer for corrective water balancing procedures. |
- Whenever filling your spa (or replenishing water lost by splash-out or evaporation), use SUN For The Spa Stain & Scale to isolate metals and minerals that can damage spa surfaces and equipment.
- With each filling of the spa, and weekly thereafter, use SUN For The Spa Natural Enzyme to digest body oils and lotions that can leave unpleasant residues on your spa.
Step 3: Test |
To ensure clean and healthy water that is safe for bathers, equipment and spa surfaces, spa water must fall within the proper water balance and sanitizer ranges . You should test your spa water (using the simple test strip included in the SUN For The Spa) before each use, or at least three times weekly. |
- WATER BALANCE: An essential part of water treatment is maintaining proper water balance- that means "total alkalinity" and "pH". Dip the test strip in the spa water and compare the total alkalinity and pH color patches to the test strip bottle.
Proper alkalinity range: 80-150ppm - Proper pH range: 7.2-7.8 |
- SANITIZER: Re-dip the test strip in the spa water for 30 seconds. Compare the end pad to the sanitizer color on the bottle. Proper sanitizer range:
Chlorine sanitizer: 1-3ppm Bromine sanitizer: 3-5ppm |
IMPORTANT:
Never mix chemicals together
Never add water to chemicals - add chemicals to water
Always have the spa running when adding maintenance chemicals |
Step 4: Treat |
- BALANCING THE WATER: When water balance (total alkalinity and pH) does not fall within the proper ranges as described above, treat as follows: NOTE: The total alkalinity and pH of spa water tends to decrease with use.
- Raise total alkalinity into the 80-150ppm range using SUN For The Spa pH/Alkalinity Plus . If pH still is not between 7.2-7.8 add pH Inreaseor or Alkalinity Plus.
- Lower total alkalinity and pH with SUN For The Spa pH/Alkalinity Minus
- SANITIZING: Spa water is kept clean and pure by one of three sanitizing methods: a chlorine system, a bromine system or a two-part bromine system.
Chlorine System: Add SUN For The Spa Chlorinating Granules (Chlorinating Granules) according to the package instructions to maintain a chlorine residual of 1-3 ppm (purple reading on your test strip). All it takes is 2/3 ounce after filling and 1/4 ounce daily for a 250 gallon spa. |
Bromine System: Each time you fill your spa, add 2 ounces of SUN For The Spa Bromo-Bank (sodium bromide) to the water. This will create a bromine reserve. Then add SUN For The Spa Brominating Tablets to your automatic feeder or floating device according to the package directions. |
SHOCKING: During normal use, body oils, lotions and other organic contaminants can enter the water. To destroy these impurities, it is critical to "shock" the water at least weekly. To shock the water, keep the pump running and add SUN For The Spa SUN-Brite® ( Non-Chlorine Shock), according to the package directions. Just 2 ounces treats spas up to 500 gallons. Remember to wait 20 minutes before re-entering the spa. |
